So i have one of those modded with an Acclero S1 and everything is ice cold under full furmark load...but the rear of the card where the back plate is its pretty hot

Are the ram chips under this? i thought that they where on the other side...i actually have some nice zalman sinks covering those but what is under this backplate that isn't being cooled and is only covered by some thermal tape and the plate?

How would i cool these? do i need to?

I am doing some serious overclocking...i could remove the plate and just use the screws but i would have to fanagle a fan over them to keep them cool i guess...

Just noticed this thread and realised you never received an answer.
I believe on this proprietary Diamond 4850 that the memory is located both on the top and the bottom of the PCB

There are only 4 RAM chips on top, the other 4 are located on the underside of the card.
You could indeed remove the backplate and add your own memory sinks, although cooling performance would be possibly slightly worse.

It seems a strange idea to me, with the memory on top there is air passing over it, underneath the card doesn't tend to get much airflow.

Anyway up to you, unless pushing high volts or overclocks vMEM doesn't usually need too much cooling. However if the bracket is in the way or you are pushing higher overclocks you could point a fan at it

Thanks and yeah i went ahead and removed the stock plate and applied some cheap sinks for the moment...the plate wasn't cooling them AT ALL ...

I am still not going to run or push the card with these cheap Accelero sinks on it...i shall waiting some nice new Zerotherm's in the mail and add a fan towards the rear of the card...

Ha thought something was wrong there

I had been looking at those before but figured there was a few more in the zerotherm kit which there isn't and i could get it at newegg and they where green like my PCB...so i will definitely go with the zalman's if i can

I actually have four of those out of that zalman set on my card from the previous owner and was looking for matching ones so this is great and answers why i didn't find them when searching zalman ramsinks...

Now only if i can find them at a decent price
