You probably don't have anything on your VRMs. I replaced my stock cooler with an HR-03 and didn't have anythign on my VRMs and it would crash.

Put on one of IANDH's heatsinks and the temps are tolerable now, but still not perfect (basically I can get the temps to run away with furmark).

In games my temps max around 49C. During benching the core gets around 55-60C, but the VRMs just go nuts in furmark. I let them get to about 105C and then I stop (happens after about 5 min.).

^^This

The VRM heatsinks that come with the T-rad are useless. There incredibly small and do nothing to dissipate the heat.

I got lucky and still had the VRM heatsink from my HR-03 R600, it's only about 30 - 40% bigger than the T-Rad VRM heatsink but does the job well, with the exception of Furmark.

I can game for hours and the VRM's don't break 80c (including Crysis), 5 mins of Furmark and there heading past 100c.

Solution: I don't use Furmark

my XFX 8800 GTS i got 3 years ago has been rock solid, a godly overclocker, and makes no noises (even when ati tool is running)

Are the VRM the little chips at the end of the card? If so, I just left the stock one on there... Works great.

This card was a re-design, the VRM heatsink wasnt at the end of the card, but more inwards. The T-rad2 wouldnt fit unless i removed it, I did stick the Thermalright sinks onto the VRM's but I they didnt fit over all of them. I recieved my 4890 swap out yesterday anyway, and new PSU... I'm a bit broke for a while

your card was probably just defective, even with just one 120 mm you shouldn't be getting temperatures that high
I got the HD-489A-ZDDC model, it has an 8-pin and a 6-pin.
From what i've heard its the better one?
