Default Got my T-Rad2 for my 4870 - Temps

For those of you who havnt read my previous post, XFX supplied me with a 4870 1GB which sadly has a redesigned heatsink fan... temps were climbing to over 100C on standard clocks...

So off it went....

After votes and polls and googling finding the best cooler for this card...
on went the T-Rad2

So for the test I just ran Crysis for a while, figured that would be the best way to stress the card out a bit.

Stock:

T-Rad2:

I have to say thats quite a drop... but then again the temps would never have been that high if the card came with the 2 slot fan I was hoping for.
I also need to start looking at buying a new case, the thermaltake lanbox is great for... well lans. But the cooling really sucks.

But never the less, it's a 20C drop, good enough for me, i'm getting a max idle of 63C, given the African summer weather here and poor airflow inside my case, i'd say thats pretty good

Hi mate,

I'd really recommend running 2 x 92mm fans on that T-rad, I got similar temps to yourself with a 120mm fan. Replaced it with 2 x92mm and it's now idle (min)35c load (max)60c.

That still seems hella high. What is your average ambient temp? I was considering grabbing one of those for my 4870 as well. It looks like a pair of these would fit on there as well.

I load at 65c @ 800/1000, didn't your T-Rad2 come with 2 of Thermalright's 92MM fans? Mine did and they're pretty good and SILENT.

Really high temps, even with the T-Rad. I get lower temps on my OC'd 4870 on a Sapphire Aluminum Heatpipe cooler.

I'm on 850/1000.

Guys... last night I was running Crysis, max temp 76C and after about 30 min, the screen went green with lines going across... card died o.o sending it back today, I really dunno what happened. I'm going to opt for a swapout on the 4890, pay in the difference.

make sure you don't get the cheap xfx 4890, it has a bad cooler too, and tend to make odd noises

your card was probably just defective, even with just one 120 mm you shouldn't be getting temperatures that high

What are your ambient temperatures there? Mine idles around 45C but only peaks around 60C. I also have two 92mm fans in the mail so it should drop even lower.
