I recently bought the Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo for my 4870, but when applying the heatsinks for the Ram and Voltage regulators to the card, the pre-applied adhesive was so weak that the heatsinks fell off almost immediately. So i ordered some thermal glue to keep them on there. My question is should i try and get all the pre-applied adhesive off the heatsinks or just put the thermal glue over top of them.(the adhesive WAS NOT a paste, to get it off i would actually have to sit there and pick it off with nails, it was a rubbery chewing gum material)
Thanks |

Yes, if you leave the old stuff on, it will reduce the heat transfer and bond of the new stuff.
Just soak the heat sinks in alcohol to soften the adhesive up then it should come off much easier. Any residue left on the RAM can be cleaned off with a q-tip and alcohol.
