I heard the Accelero S1 doesn't cool the voltage regulators or something on the 4870. Does the Accelero Twin Turbo address that issue?

Do it how it is in the picture. The heatpipe might hit the memory heatsink so watch out for that. Second off, the Accelero your referring to is old school. You want Accelero s1 R2( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-016-_-Product ). Has 2 added heatpipe and is very efficient and will easily handle your needs as long as you put a good fan on it. You want to oc the hell out of it? Get this to cool the Vrm's! http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=25453 Want even better/ higher oc? http://www.ncixus.com/products/41625...ZALMAN%20TECH/ Hope that covers it all! Accelero S1 R2 experience: Vrm's get a bit hot but gaming wise fine but furmark gets them up to 100c or so but furmarkjust kills. Core and memory wise, it lowerd memory from 90c to 70c and core from something to never over 70 load on a benchmark(used a 1200RPM fan).

I have a 140MM fan attached to the front of mine and a 120MM in the rear to cool my 4 vrams on the bottom of the card.....great combination of cooling Kind of looks like a sandwich though...

Well, I was thinking rather than getting an S1 r2 for which I probably would end a buying a fan anyways, I might as well spend the extra $15 up-front and get the Twin Turbo. Sounds like a better deal, no?

If you're brave enough take a hack saw to the stock heatsink and cut off what you need to cover the VRM's and or memory.
Here's what I did with my 4850: ![]()

NOPE...
Go check the benchmarks out...i am pretty sure that the Accelero not only easily passes the twin turbo but can cool quite a bit better if you have a high CFM fan setup

![]() The thing is though, I'm not looking for crazy low temperatures. The reason I want to change the stock cooler is because it's GOING TO DRIVE ME INSANE **** IT'S SO LOUD!!!11!!!1! The above is not an exaggeration. So with that in mind, would a passive setup with an S1 r2 work? As long as I get the same amount of cooling as I got with the stock cooler I'm fine. I just want it to shut the hell up.

Yes, as long as air passes over it it will be fine but watch the temps and run ati tool and see how hot it gets, run it 30 minutes and see the temps, if you like it, your fine, if not, get a 800rpm fan and will DEFINITELY keep it in check

If you get a nice DB/CFM fan and run it in the medium to low range like 800rpm/1600rpm etc i think you should be just fine...keep in mind though you will only need one for the top of the cooler(my card has rear vrams) and either a 120MM or 140MM would work fine BUT i would recommend the 140MM so you can cover as much of the cooler AND card surface as possible... I have to bump my 4870 up into 80-90% fan speed which of course equals 4000RRPM! if i want to run 800+Mhz core/1100Mhz Mem without the card going super nova....a new cooler is definitely sounding pretty good to my ears
