Default What should I set the fans speeds to?

Right now my 4850 gets to a hot temp of 100 C when playing CoD 4! My 4830 stays a lot cooler at about 70 C. The room is about 21 C but gets a lot hotter when I have my computer on.

I have both set to 50% on the fan speed, should I raise it? Noise is not a issue, with two 250mm fans going it's hard to hear anything over them. I'm planing on folding 24/7 and I'm worried about overheating...

Thanks!

Yes. It can take another 5c, but I'd be uncomfortable having it that hot.

Turn the fan up to as high as you can stand it.

Also, replace the TIM on the GPU and memory chips, that should be a decent decrease in temps.

Edit: Artic Silver 5 won't be a very good TIM to use on GPUs, since it's slightly capactive. Something like OCZ freeze would be better.

I would raise it. That's quite high. You can set it to 100% if you like, but personally I would raise it as high as possible without it being a whirring nuisance.

Replacing the TIM would be beneficial if you haven't already.

I haven't replaced the TIM yet, I'm a bit scared to. Any guides on it?

I don't mind having the fans at 100%, but doesn't that burn them out faster?

It doesn't burn them out faster, they're rated to run at that speed anyway. You can expect about a hundred thousand hours from your typical fan.

This guide is for nVidia cards, but it's the same thing with yours.

When I had my 4830 by itself it was like 60 C max.

Thinking about getting a new cooler for just the 4850, for under $30?

Replacing the stock TIM is a great place to start.
If you have a reference 4850 then the Accelero S1 will fit the bill and fits fine. The accelero should fit on non-reference cards but theres no guarantee that you won't have to bend or modify it.
