When I downloaded ATI Tool I was surprised to see my idle temp of my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb was 65°! Is it true that ATI tool adds 20° to the temperature to simulate a more accurate reading?

did you have the 3d renderer open? if you did thats whats causing the increase in temps.

For safety's sake, I always take the higher reading to be true. 65C is plenty safe for a graphics core though, just keep it under 75-80C.

I DID read it somewhere. I found what I was looking for. This is for any1 who is is experiencing a 20 degree GPU difference between two or more monitoring programs (Everest, ATI Tool, ect.) Check it out! http://forums.techpowerup.com/archiv...hp/t-1376.html http://forums.techpowerup.com/archiv...php/t-553.html http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...0&pagenumber=8 I think you get the picture. So it turns out that since the LM63 diode is located away from the core itself, ATI Tool simply adds 20 degrees C to the reading to "compensate". Of course, 20 degrees is a linear correction while the temperature is not a linear funciton, so you can't expect great accuracy from this concept. Hope this helps some1 or at least interests some1 ![]()
