I haven't tried it yet but seen various posts of people that have and said it works passed CCC OC limits.

Well I used this and I could run 3dmark at 810/1150 for a score of 17200.
Not bad. However, how are we supposed to adjust the fan speed settings without the use of the CCC Profiles? With the AWESOME power of 20% fanspeed my 4870 lovingly reached the temps of 80C IDLE after 3dmark06 and were unable to lower itself. Moments later, idle on my desktop - the artifacts come, and don't go away. After a few minutes of trying to get CCC to load a profile strictly for the fanspeed fix I got it to work, and my temps went down to 38C idle but I could not get this to stay. Do we know of a way to adjust the fan speed elsewhere?

My only advice would be to get an aftermarket cooler with independent cooling control, eg Zalman VF1000, GV1000

Pull the fan header off the card, pull the tab above the blue wire, and pull the blue wire out. Fan will stick at 100%, and allow you to do whatever the heck you want with amd gpu clock tool! =) Works until there's a fix and/or rivatuner support. Perfectly reversible doing what I suggest too assuming you don't break the dang thing.

Finally, this tool is the best tool to overclock 4800s from my experience.
I oced my 4870s to 850/1200. Both are cooled by GV1000 + customed exhaust fan. Although 3DMARK06 score isn't high enough yet, real gaming performance is siiiiick!!! ![]() It pulls out 35-55 fps in Crysis very-high option. and Maxes out in Hellgate. Best graphic card ever xD The only drawback is 4870 takes too much power!! especially when overclocked. When I play Crysis, it uses nearly 600W of power. Idle temp - 46 Max Load temp - 67 GV1000 - Zalman

Yep, this interferes with my fan too. I don't really want to go yanking wires out and stuff, so i'll just wait and stick with 700/1100 for now.

700/1100 is still VERY respectable man. I just found it simple as heck before I installed the card to pull the header, grab the end of a safety pin and hold the tab up while I pulled the blue wire out. Easily reversible, does no damage, does not void warranty, but noisy as living heck.
