Hey guys,
__________________Since I got some amazing help with overclocking my CPU to 3ghz, I was quite hoping that someone could give me a golden tip on how to get my 4850 to work better. You see, I replaced the crappy stock cooler with a Zalman VF1000, put heatsinks on all the RAM and even bought an extra set of heatsinks (the standard Zalman ones, blue n spiky lol) so that the 8 tiny pieces of RAM upfront are covered too. It took about 1 heatsink to cover up 4 of them, lol. Anyway, my main gripe is that I can seemingly overclock the core clock to 690 stable, but my memory refuses to go further than 1085. After that I get artifacts and general instability (sometimes the 4850 just shuts itself down and my PC keeps running) wheras the heat doesnt go past 60 degrees celsius max stressed, max overclocked. As you all probably know the stock cooler had the card running at the ridiculously high idle temperature of 80 degrees, so I just cant see how heat would be a problem. Do I need to wait until the Catalyst 8.7 drivers come out for improved overclocking stability or something? I am using CCC to overclock so I'm kind of hoping that because the 4850 only has the hotfix driver and not officials, and overclocking is done thru the drivers, that this is the problem. Then again I've seen a review of someone putting a VF1000 on it, without heatsinks on the ram, and he overclocked it at max without any issues. Hope we can work this out and thanks in advance =) Jae~

Yep. Sure could. If it can't supply the power needed then it won't start. That's a small PSU for that HD4850 and your current system.

Each card is slightly different, maybe a VMod would help yr ram. ram timings might be holding back yr ram speed on the card, try slackening them after some serious research on the matter!

My ram is game stable at 1150 but ATitools stable at 1100. All cards are differnt and dont thing you can go more then 1085 without voltmod.

Hmm how would one accomplish this voltmod? And is there a way to find out if I'm using up too much power than I have (aka how many watts I would have left?).

GDDR3 doesn't go much above 1.2GHz, and that's the good kind. Most chips crap out at around 1GHz. It depends what chips your card uses; some vendors use high quality RAM on their cards, while others use cheaper RAM to bring down cost.

So basically, the ''crashing'' of the 4850 (when it just stops giving me graphics; this only happens when the GPU is in use so during games) could very well be more or less a failsafe crash because the DDR3 cant handle it? My card is a Club 3D one by the way.
__________________If that's so then atleast I know I overclocked it as far as I can go. Thanks for the PSU calculator. I used a x1950 as reference and a 8800GTS, they both come out around 420 watts so to me it seems like my PSU wouldnt be the problem.
