Default overclocking hd 4870

are there any good tools besides amd gpu clock tool that will increase voltage through the gpu? because my gpu doesn't want to go above stock...the performance actually goes down after i oc the core...so i think it needs a little more voltage and it'll run happy @ 800 MHz.

Yep what Azornecro said.... The power saving features have a voltage change in them too... So if you use the CCC to OC you can max out the CCC Core limit and CCC will run the voltage up to adjust... If you open a CCC profile you will see 3 voltage settings (Usually bottom 2 are the same and the 3rd jumps up for demanding games).

And to me:
amd gpu clock tool does NOT = CCC

And from my understanding amd gpu clock tool does NOT change voltage, fan speed, etc and Yet CCC does (it does not push it passed the BIOS limits but it does change it using the ATI PowerPlay™ Technology)

So again I can't read because I suggest a tool that is not AMD GPU Clock Tool when you asked for a suggestion of a tool that is not AMD GPU Clock tool... So I guess I can't read...

are you positive that actually applies the specified voltage? i heard the bios limit for the hd 4850 is 1.2v but i am not so sure about the hd 4870. if you manage to prove that it you can increase the voltage through CCC (not by just changing the setting in the XML profile file) then i will rep ya.

CCC adjust the voltage based on requirements (ATI PowerPlay)... Again as stated it will not go above the CCC/Bois max (4850 1.2v) My understanding is that if you are using AMD Clock Tool you get stuck with the low voltage which is much lower than the 1.2v max... (Because you supposedly removed ATI PowerPlay without setting a new fixed voltage so you get stuck with the lowest)

So again use CCC to overclock and if you can max out the clock on the CCC then look for something else... AMD Clock Tool seems nice but it leaves issues with fan, voltage, etc. that require a BIOS flash to fix...

Again this is just my understanding... And I am a n00b at this...

I have zero problems maxing CCC OC. At 790/110 it makes me wonder how much more the card has in it.
