So I finally got this beast installed today... and well i just sent it folding away. Then later I came back to just look at some temps and attempt to start overclocking. To my surprise GPU-Z said I was hitting 100C on load. So I stopped the client. Here is a screenshot at idle. I really don't think these temps should be this high. I mean it does have a non-stock cooler and it isn't overclocked at all. Could this just be the 9.1's having issues with W7? What do you all suggest?

Those temps are scary. My HD 4850 doesn't go above 50c under load with a folding client. I would reinstall the drivers. You might have to take the card out and check the screws to see if they may be loose. If temps keep up that high the card will die and I would RMA sooner then later.

I am tempted to install xp or vista and see what temps i get. This really sucks haha.

I would do that. You need to make sure there is nothing wrong with your hardware, and if there isn't, you can safely ignore it in windows 7.

I don't think ccc has anything to do with the drivers of the card. I've installed 4850 before with just the driver and did not have any issues. GPU-Z will read the temps from the internal sensor reporting and as long as your graphic drivers are loaded, it should function properly. I also find it hard to believe that os will cause this type of error. From my experience with w7 beta I didn't have any change in temp reporting from my cpu, gpu,hd, and etc compared to vista. I'm leaning towards either improper install of the heatsink or a damaged card possibly on the voltage regulator.

I have touched the hsf by hand and it really isnt that hot. I am not sure. i will reinstall/reseat tomorrow night. I do not really have time right now. I can use mx-2 on the gpu die right?
__________________EDIT: Got paranoid and did the reseat. There was a lack of retention as well as almost NO, NONE, NADA TIM on the die. Fixed it up with some MX-2. ![]()

Many thanks, REP all around.

CCC may rely on drivers specific to vista or XP. Your are tying to install the 64bit version right? I am not sure about rivatuner... I tried win7 early and nothing seemed very compatible to me, so it may still take a little time for rivatuner to come around.
