Default My 4870 destroyed mobo also?

I got a 4870, oced it(maxed CCC controller for core and left my memory at stock) Went into RBE flashed my card to those values and set my card at 1.300 core volts instead of the normal 1.26 or w/e it is. I also put an accelero S1 R2 on it with a modified VDDC cooler.( the whole area were the VDDC mosfets/ black squares should be covered by a heatsink(purple and black by picture).) What I did is I took black tape to protect the 2 6 pin volts(the backside exposed wires so nothing metal touches it). I also covered the voltage regulators behind the VDDC with tape were the wires are exposed(green circled in the picture). I put the heatsink on top of the VDDC and nothing metal or anything touched anything around it. I also put some sinks on top of the voltage regulators behind the VDDC(circled green) and touches the heatsink but who cares.

I plugged all in ran fine. Did a benchie, went to PC to touch the sinks and PFF!! Some loud sparky thing happened and PC shut down(near the end of the card were the 6 pins connect)!! Tried reboot and no go. Tried other cards that worked no go(8600,4830). Then I took a X400 and guess what? IT WORKS!! It seems the whole PC boots up fine cause I'm online lol but what is weird is the cards don't get warm as in no power is going to the cards(only the high end cards not the X400)... ... tested cards in other PC's and it works.

So did the 4870 die with the mobo or is it another issue at hand?

Use pic below to help you understand what I'm talking about

If the 6pin cord sparked I would think your PSU is fried or not working correctly because the 4870 needs alot of "juice" to run it when the 8600gt and the 4830 don't take as much.

What PSU do you use? Sounds suspiciously much like a PSU issue like Angmaar pointed out.

PC and cooling 610 watt. It doesn't run a 8600gt or a 4830, runs a X400 only

I have a X200(very old very low powered card). That works perfectly fine. When I plug a 4830(has a pin connector and power hungry), the fan spins but no display and I can hear it go to desktop but again, no display and the card doesn't get warm. When I take a 8600(more powerfull then a X200 but no power pin) Does the same thing!!! So what I'm trying to get at here is if my mobo is busted or is it my psu? Or is it BOTH!?

Then If anyone knows, how did my 4870 die? Was it cause I poked the heatsink or is it caused by it was a bad card or is it by the heatsink possibly touching something underneath it?

I'd say it tried to use more power with the overclock. Therefore not enough power and bingo shorted. Mobo possibly will be fried. Look for burn marks on the slot or a bad smell, thats usually an indication its knackered. I'm on a 5% overclock, i dont go too high as its a beast of a system i've got and cant afford to RMA lol

"I'd say it tried to use more power with the overclock. Therefore not enough power and bingo shorted"

That statement is not true and not valid at all. Thanks for the info but I have oced a 4830 from 1.15 volts to over 1.45 toching it and abused it way more with no issues.

Some good news! I put a new psu in and the music sounds fine!!(the other psu with the issue had distortion with bass), but when I put new psu in its all good!! Does this mean my psu is bad?
