its the card in my sig. I'm using CCC with 680 Core and 1043 mem. I did autotune and then backed those down a bit when i got 690 core and 1058 mem.

there may not be much that can be done in your case, 4850 are 4850 for a reason one of which is they are not very overclockable otherwise they would be 4870, 690/1058 from 680/1043 isn't overclock, I'd call it "barelyclock", I've clocked my 3870 from 777 to 1000 and even that was not much of a difference, because it would seem my game was not so much dependent on video card performance, rather the cpu, which is where my recommendation comes in: might want to investigate your cpu overclocking options first.
and should you get to the video card eventually: on stock cooling your options are limited, that 1000 mhz was with water cooling (admit, worst water cooling ever but still) and a voltmod of 1.6V but at 35C room temp, yet another factor that could greatly inhibit your potential, going from 680 to, say 900 would be possible if you'd have proper cooling (NEVER use stock cooling for overclocking), and at high ambient room temperatures that cooling must never be air-based, I'd say anything higher than 30 C room temp much use water to get any kind of useful performance. at least in your case, of corse if you can do voltmod - maybe you can do 1000 Mhz as well - but I can tell you for sure - regardless of you room temp, that speed is not possible without voltmod (even if water cooled). |

680mhz sounds about right for stock voltage. If you want to clock it higher, you'll have to do voltmods. The XFX stock cooler is pretty good, it should be able to keep the card cool even with voltmods.

I very much beg to differ I have come across some mad hatters that pushed to 800/1200 on the what you would call a lackluster card, but it was done under water. But as you said anything higher liquid and volt mod is where it's at.
