Default 9.6 and high temps on 4870?

Sorry if this is posted else where, but I could not find anything when using the new google search.

Has anyone else gottend super high temps on their 4870 when using 9.6 drivers? I have a Sapphire 4870 1GB and when using the 9.6 drivers and default speeds, my card was hitting high 75+C when gaming. I'd hear the fan spin up like crazy all the time. I rolled back my drivers to the previous, which happened to be 9.3, and found a 20 degree cooler difference in temp.

At first I thought it was due to high ambient temp, but its stayed roughly between 75 and 78F in the house for both the 9.6 and the 9.3 drivers.

Is this just me or has anyone else experienced it?

Maybe it's a bug in CCC. Try using another monitoring program?

Even if it was a bug in CCC, I still can hear and fan spinning up to crazy high speeds. I use SpeedFan also, but it does not track my fans correctly, or have a specific callout for the GPU temp. I'm still messing aorund and will probably try 9.5 and 9.6 again tonight.

I havent tried 9.5 yet(just got my 4870's), but I am currently running 9.6, and am having issues with temps also, and constant fan speed ramps. idle temps in GPUZ show ~65C @ 50-60% fan.

I may try rolling back to 9.5 and seeing how it does.

Hmmm the biggest thing I've seen is my GPU activity isn't working. It just constantly sits at 0% no matter what I do. I'm folding right now and it's folding and working perfectly, but I'm at 0% still lol. I use HWMonitor to keep track of my GPU's Minimum, Maximum, and Current temperature all the time. Same for my CPU. My GPU as of late w/ a 45% fan has a Min of 41C, Max of 58C, and currently while folding, and on Firefox it's at 44C. I'm on 9.6 btw. I'd say go back to 9.6 or which ever one you're on currently. Record the temps, then rollback or update to the other and do the same. For all I know it could be properly displaying temps, but somehow being a buggy driver. Maybe try the 9.7 beta's as well.
