Default Problem Overclocking

Disregard the first page or so of responses, as they were for the previous question that I had. I've changed the values in CCC of both the GPU and Memory clock speeds. But CCC says the current value of the GPU speed is 600, instead of the 790 that I have it set at. What's going on?

EDIT. Nevermind. I see that it goes up under load. I checked that a couple times but I never saw it go up in CCC. Now I just did. Whatever.

Is there someway that I can set my fan to be at a certain % or speed while idle and at a different speed when under load? CCC doesn't have this option.

And while running ATI Tool, can I be doing other things or do I have to have the tool on top/up front?

You could set it on the bios to do a % when at a certain temperature and go 100% when at lets say 55c.

EDIT

Sorry, didn't read that you wanted to do it from windows.

Setting the fan speed in CCC to Auto can do the trick.

BIOS doesn't control the GPU's fan.

Mmk. Guess I'll leave it on auto and see how my temps are then.

If you are talking about your GPU, then I would check out RivaTuner. I use it to control my GPU fan based on temperature. As my card heats up, the fan spins faster. Great program. Hope that helps!

Can you choose specific fan speeds for specific temperature ranges?
I really need to check RivaTuner out...

I'll check it out.

What kind of temp should I aim to stay under with the 4870?

Yeah, I have specific temperature thresholds on my card that I set in RivaTuner. I normally have my fan spinning at 60% until it hits 65 degrees. Then it gets bumped up to 80% automatically; at 75 degrees it goes to 100%. Makes things really nice, keeps my card as quiet as possible, but makes sure I don't fry it.

Well right now, while running ati tool, my temp is about 66-67 and the fan's at 60% (with CCC set to auto fan control). It's audible at 60% (if the room is quiet, it probably wouldn't be as noticable if there was game sound/music). I had it to 100% for a while while testing and the thing was like a small vacuum .

I don't know ATI as well, but that should be just fine. My card is supposed to stay under 90 degrees, and I've only gone over that twice. Video cards are built to withstand some pretty brutal temperatures, so 66-67 is great. I wouldn't worry about it, especially running at 60% fan.

Unless you're folding, the temperature will fluctuate a lot depending on how much your card is being used. See if you can run a couple full screen benchmarks and keep an eye on your temperatures. My guess is that you'll be just fine.
