So, I went ahead and installed 9.8 today, along with my 4870 that I got back from RMA. When I play TF2 or TMN, I get some really annoying microstutter issues. Is there a fix for this, or should I roll back to like 9.6 (I believe that's what I was using before I RMA'd my card).

Try rolling back and if that fixes it, there is something weird with 9.8...

Is there a link somewhere for 9.6 or 9.7? I can only find 9.8 on ATI's website.

Ugh, now I keep getting this error:
__________________![]() I got it after I installed the 9.7's, so I uninstalled thinking either the install was bad, or the drivers were wrong. I then downloaded 9.6 and just got that same error. I'm getting the drivers from Guru3d (Vista 64bit), so I don't think its the wrong drivers. I dont believe its my hardware either since the 9.8's installed just fine earlier.

Break out Driver Cleaner or Driver Sweeper, I think.
I've never had that error, except on mobile ATi chips when I've forgotten to mod the .inf...

Thats the thing, I did that. I uninstalled using ATI's utility, then booted in safe mode, used Driver Sweeper and CCleaner, rebooted, installed, and then rebooted again. I'm pretty sure I got rid of everything that was previously installed.

With ATI, its best to either uninstall with their uninstaller, and restart, then install the new driver... Or just install over the old driver. Everytime i've used a Driver Cleaner with ATI i've had to reformat because I couldn't find a way to reinstall the driver. Same error as you have. ATI's driver packages are buggy.. and it's one of the reason why I might not buy the 5870X2.

I think I may have dodged a bullet with this one if what Murlocke said is true. I used ATI's uninstaller to get rid of the drivers and just went ahead and installed 9.6 without doing the Driver Cleaner thing and all appears to have worked. Now lets just hope that my microstutter issue is also fixed.
__________________EDIT Eh...the microstutter doesn't seem to be as bad, but it feels like its still there. I don't know though, it may all be in my head since I'm probably looking too hard for it.
