The 4870 has a lot of horizontal tearing issues. Mirror's Edge looks absolutely terrible on that card.

Nope, it's just the card. Replace it with a GT200 .
I thought it was just a common occurrence, but after having used multiple Crossfire and single GPU 4800 series setups, I went for the GTX 275, and all of a sudden, smooth as glass. Might be the increased bus size and added memory bandwidth, but that's my experience, even while screaming bloody murder at ATi.

Horizontal tearing is present on both ATI and Nvidia cards. You might have to uninstall and reinstall your drivers.

I got horrible horizontal tearing on my Nvidia card before and it was fixed once I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers.

It is worth a try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. I am currently away from my desktop (I'm on my ThinkPad at a friend's house), but I will test out that game on my desktop asap.
