Default my ati 4850's don't like Microsoft Dx anymore could someone help please?

Just the other day I was playing ETQW it was fine, then the next day all I got to was Initializing input and then it hangs.
So I did a clean install of ETQW then the same thing, I also did the same for Win7 to no avail.
So now I have gone back to XP SP3 and also the same thing ,but it does the same sort of thing. Like fear for instance it will bring up the busy symbol when I double click the icon but no game or no DX app at all.
What should I do now, or what should I investigate first.
As I said worked fine one day then not the next, oh as on a side note anything not 3d related works fine in both single card and crossfirex.
Thank you guys in advance.

As a spinner they run FurMark Open Gl as sweet as a nut, so it seems as though they don't want to play with DX could it be an option that I may of hit ?

First FurMark is not that great on cards. As they can destroy or damage them if you let it run too long. Happened to me, in my more noob days!

Make sure your cards are on stock and up the fan speed to make sure there is no overclocking. Also make sure you have the latest drivers and try running the cards by them self not in crossfire, and see if that makes a difference. You could also try unplugging the DVI cable and plug it back in.

Just some thoughts, I did not understand your original post entirely. What exactly is the problem? Does the game crash and go black when you play a game? Is it on all 3d programs? Or is it a problem with the connection to your monitor loosing signal?

I had done all that, I used furmark as an eg that my cards did work just not on DirectX.
But I found the solution to my problem, some how some way Win7 created a small partition only 8Mb but I am only guessing it contained files related to Dx and they where corrupted.

The signs I incurred: win 7
1. I could see my sys tray (windows), and it said everything is working fine.
2. I would launch ETQW it would get to Initializing Input, then it wouldn't respond.

win xp:
1. I installed FEAR, I would launch FEAR but it wouldn't go out of windows. But when I looked in Task Manager and looked at processes and FEAR.exe was at the top of the list, but there was no display for the game.
2. I ran DXdiag and it could not go through the first information gathering, which led me to believe it was in fact Directx and not my cards.

Win7 (fresh install):
1. I Deleted the small 8MB partition on my main HDD, I ran DXdiag and it gathered all info for both 32 bit and 64 bit.
2. So I installed FEAR and it now works (which solidifies my belief that Directx somehow corrupted it's self)
