Default possible to unlock 4850s Voltage??

I have never been able to unlock the 4850s voltage right.

I once tried a custom bios but it cause Catalyst to believe i didn't have an ATI card so i had to revert back.

Also a side note: i have tried doing pencil mod on it and i stupidly did it without a voltmeter but anyways is it possible to remove the pencil by simply erasing?

You can change the voltage without flashing the BIOS or using any OC software.

First create a custom profile in CCC(any settings would do) with a name you will remember
Then go to C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles
and open your new profile via Notepad (right-click -> Edit).
There you will find something called Feature name="CoreVoltageTarget_0" with a few values displayed lower.

These are your GPU core voltage values.
Want_0 and Want_1 are your Idle voltage values and Want_2 is the one you will want to change.

Save, load profile in CCC, see voltages, stability and heat rise.

AFAIK unless your 4850 has digital VRMs it's not possible to softmod voltage.

You can try rivatuner and it's plugins for voltage however(just google)

I will try these out.And what you guys suggest for overclocking crossfired cards? I can't go beyond 1Ghz memory. Would disabling CF and OCing invidually solve the thing?

It only works for 4870 or nvidia

Also im trying what Humanfactor said, i found the file and it says 1123 for want_2 i am gonna change taht to 1220

Does this mean i can set a lower idle speed for my card through the same file?

Not true..if your GPU uses the voltera buck controller for GPUv regulation then the plugins will indeed work for voltage editing. I was able to use it for my 4850's.. but decided to hardmod them anyways.

With VR mod, you will be able to scale voltage to the limits of your cooling solutions.

..like this one I did..GPUv + vMEM and 4x 2ndary caps

Alll i remeber is that i tried the plugin and it seemed to say that i didnt have a certain volt regulator or whatever.

But im really suprised that CCC actualy has a way for you to change the voltage in the profile file, i mean i thought they tried to limit 4850s voltage so that you cant get it running like a 4870??

anyways running at 1.24 vcore i believe, i was able to get up to 726 so far as opposed to my 682.

Edit it stil seems unstable unless i go back to my usual 682 vcore, are you sure this works?
