Yesterday i wanted to speed up my dads ASUS laptop by uninstalling all ASUS's adware cr** and install the latest drivers. Everything was going smooth until i tried updating the GPU to the latest drivers (X1650 and the latest mobility is 9.3).
According to ATI's website 9.3 supports the X1650 (or at least i think so) but after i downloaded them and started installing them an error message came up, "Setup didn't find a driver compatible with your current hardware". I really have no clue why it isn't working and it is starting to piss my family off. Any help would be appreciated +rep

What OS is loaded on the laptop? Are you sure you downloaded the driver for the correct version of his OS(x86 most likely)?

i'm certain i'm downloading it for the right OS (XP, x86). There just seems to be some problem with it detecting the GPU

I had a similar problem with my old Compaq laptop and nvidia drivers. The only drivers that would detect the card were the compaq ones. I suggest putting the Asus ones back on.

Until you find the issue, i definetly suggesting rolling back to the old drivers. They should still work, and keep your family happy (they prob don't care about new drivers).
