Default Can't Overclock 4850 with ATI Tool

Hey everyone,

I have a VisionTek Radeon 4850, running Windows 7 Ultimate with Catalyst 9.9. Trying to use AtiTool 0.27 beta 3 to overclock it. Every time I try to add even a small amount to the core and hit 'set clock', it just reverts back to 0.00 and there is no core clock increase. Am I doing anything wrong?

Thanks and sorry for the noob question.

You have to use RivaTuner or some other clocking tool. ATItool is outdated.

EDIT: For stability, test with Furmark or run 3dmark runs or play crisys.

You can use atitool, but only if you boot by spamming F8 right before windows loads (or at the MBR prompt), and selecting "disable driver signing"...it's not worth it. I use the included CCC, works perfectly

Edit: For stability don't use Furmark. It overstresses 48x0 VRMs. Use a combination of gut feeling, ATiTool stress test, and gaming.

So what version of CCC are you using? I tried using 9.2 and rivatuner (which recognizes the 9.2 driver) and then ran Crysis and Crysis was very slow... so I moved back to 9.9 and Crysis runs fine, but Rivatuner doesn't recognize 9.9 and whenever I try to simply use the CCC Overclock, it goes back to factory settings whenever I try to overclock it. I think it has something to do with me using a VisionTek card...

btw, thank you for the fast replies.

I'm using 9.9, just open CCC, click on the top left tab that says "Graphics". Select ATi Overdrive, click the lock, check the box and start OCing

I'm going to try it again, but I've tried it before. CCC would never let me overclock, even when I was using the Radeon 4850 on XP... It would always revert to 625/993 whenever I tried to overclock. Again, I think it might be due to the Visiontek brand. Thus, I've resorted to Rivatuner or ATiTool...

will report back

If CCC will not allow the OC, you need a new BIOS IMO..I have had this issue with a few different types of 4850's before.

okay. How should I go about flashing a new bios...what bios should I try on the visiontek 4850? Again, sorry for the noobish questions...

I'm pretty sure I can't overclock because the Visiontek has a lifetime warranty... maybe that has something to do with it? They have a certain bios to keep you from overclocking?

Doubt it. Can you link your card, or at least provide a picture?
