Default Help To Figure out specs on vid cards.

First off let me start this thread with this question... What specifications on video cards do you judge the most severe? And what specs are the most important?

I did a search on my own with my assumed and very little correct knowledge on different vid cards through the egg...I came up with it narrowed down to 3 within my budget...= 200.00-250.00 Dollars S/H included in that.Here are the 3 I narrowed it down to.

CS = Core Speed
MS = Memory Speed
PP = Pixel Pipelines
LM = Maybe can reach that number
MR = Megabites of RAM
BIT = Memory Interface interval
RES = Resolution

CS MS PP LM MR BIT RES
565/1430 24 256 256 2560/1600 -----x1950 XT
650/1800 16/48 256 256 2560/1600 ----7950 GT
???/???? 20 512 256 2560/1600 ------7900 GS

I had this in mind during the search:
Look for highest Pixel Pipeline, Memory Interface Bits, Core, And memory speed.

I looked a little at the Megs of RAM but....I think if the specs underlining the 256 are real close to the 512...then go with the 256..youll end up Liking the payment and quality a lot better than the 512 on a retail scale that is.

Please input anything I am still learning and It just seems so frustrating to me now...but I think with some of OCN members help...I can go a long ways!
And help whoever I can when i get there

*EDIT* Also I know that SLI and Crossfire capabilities play a major role in the quality of the card...and There has to be more that im missing when it comes to judging cards..im to new to get anything right =/

This is what I know. The X1900GT has bigger clocks etc but still gets the same has the 7900GS.

I saw it on like every bechmark that compares the 7900GS to the X1900GT.

If your looking for a video card, get the 7950GT

Out of those the X1950XT wins hands down.

You can't compair clock speeds of different core architectures. 500mhz on the X1950XT is different than that of the 7950GT.

I was thinking of getting the 7950 GT but It doesnt have the 24 pipes that the x1950 has. But I know something with the 7950 GT can make it to 48 Pipes or something like that. I would feal a lot better if I knew the clock speeds for the core and memory on the 7900 GS. I would feel that much more cumfortable rulling that one out.

Thank you for your experience and I will take it very seriously..as of now I am leaning toward the 7950 GT.

and i think your talking about the 7950 GX2 with the 48 pipelines?
its basically 2 cards stuck together

I didnt know what that meant...all i know is that it had it on the specs..but I think you are right....That would make since

Im going to bump this question.....what are the most important specs for you in your choice for a vid card? if you can number them please...and also tell me what you want each one for =))) sorry I am being picky I know but When I hear it for the first couple times I want to hear it right..cha know?

The X1950XT has 48 pixel shaders, the 7950GT has 24. You can't unlock or get more on either card. The only thing that the 7950GT will do better is high resolutions, above 1600x1200. That can be solved by getting the 512MB verison of the X1950XT found here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102082

The X1950XT can also do HDR and AA at the same time, while the 7950GT can only do one at a time.

My point about the clock speeds was just that it's not a balanced way to judge different GPUs. It's like compairing Intel clock speeds to AMD clock speeds. The architecture is different between them, meaning they solve their task (displaying frames) in different ways. One GPU is faster than the other in terms of frames when they are at the same clock speed.

I read that the x1950xt only has 24...is there a multiplier in there somewhere that i am not seeing? or did i just get the wrong info altogether?
