Yeah, the stock cooler sucks. I could push it higher, but I need to wait until night for the ambient temp to go down.

Hehe with my highest run I scratch at spot 28. I'm waiting until I can place in the top 20 at least. That means Q6600 and Watercooling.

Maybe you can help me Modki, and other 2900 owners. I am trying to decide between a 2900XT (512MB) and a 8800GTS (640MB). I know the 2900 is slightly better than the 8800 at the moment (and will probably get a bit better with driver releases), but what's stopping me buying one is, well, unmmatured drivers at this present time. I've read about problems with anti-aliasing and varying performance at different res's that defy logic.

What problems do YOU have? Are the drivers really that bad?

The Vista drivers are way better than the XP ones(So I;m switching now). Linux drivers are rumored to arrive by years end, at which point I'm going to nuke the whole system and dual boot Vista with either ubuntu or Fedora.

I'd still recommend you hold off for now. You got a 7900GT, that should do most games fairly well. In a few months we'll see even better cards and reduced prices on the ones out now. $400 in a couple months could net you 14k on one card.

What Modki said.

I bought my 2900XT because I believed that my volt modded 7900GT had fried. It was a toss up between that and the cpu, and I just figured that the more expensive to replace part would be the one that went out on me. And I was right: with the video card added in, this cpu is going to cost me $700

Temps aren't bad actually until you overclock it by quite a bit. All the hot air dumps outside the case. It's a space heater but the core stays cool.
