Lol, CD, been following this post for a while, congrats on 18k+ but never took you for one to give up on something good because its new.

Please understand, upmost respect intended here because I've learned a lot from reading much of your stuff but come on now, Vista is young. Think about it, would you be as pissed at your 5 year old for peeing with the seat down as you would with your 15 year old (especially when the 15 year old can fart the theme song to jaws while the 5 year old is playing a piano concerto of Mozart's Don Giovanni)?

XP wasn't the cooler than Twisted Sister when it came out because it slowed us down, the drivers were horrible, games wouldn't play correctly, omg sounds like...lol.

Seriously, sorry to hear you had such a problem, though I hope you haven't turned your back forever.

Regards.

I'll sort out screenshots and web links in a min, but...

13049 single card XP
3.874Ghz Xeon3060 (E6600) and 887/999

17003 crossfire XP
3.846Ghz Xeon3060 and 874/999

If I remember correctly. Will be trying the 7.8's in a bit and will try some more benching.

Severely CPU limited at the moment, and can't go higher due to the Bad Axe's 1.6v (1.54 after droop) vcore limit.

Need....a.....quad.....core.....

Power consumption isn't out of this world either. Don't think I've seen it over 600w at the wall (@80% efficiency = 480w usage) even with CPU and GPUs maxed out.

Shock horror here guys, but they're actually quiet as well. Damn short crossfire bridge means you have to have them in the closest slots, so the outer card is fine, and in an open air setup, the fan stays on silent 24/7. The inner card spins up to clear the heat every 5 mins for 30 seconds and even then it's only at 30% or something and is nothing more than 'audible'.

Kind of impressed, but game performance still lacks. Wont be hesitating in putting the GTX back in

Right on. I too found the hype about the noise false. 600 watts?

Hmm I am running a 750 watt PSU in the sig rig and that sure doesn't sound right...at 600 watts I would be seeing some stability issues I think as the board started feeling the pinch

600W @ Wall socket, ~480W if you factor in the PSU's efficiency ratings.

Even if you think of that as purely 12V rail load, thats 40A which is well within your 60A 12V rail

Had one of these running off a 500W Akasa GreenPower just fine.

500W Single or 750W Crossfire is what I'd recommend.

Well......lost some points....oh well here comes the game bench next. I'm going to run Lost Coast maxed. The only difference is that I have my memory at 5-5-5-15 DDR2-1000 instead of 4-4-4-12 DDR2-800...lower CPU score too. The difference in score is so minor, something like 50 points overall.

Seems to have an impressive gain in Lost Coast! I accidentally set the reflection to reflect world instead of reflect all in the 7.37 bench, and I got a better score still (enabled reflect all this time)

Now to test BF2142/2 for in game performance and IQ. I'll also see if the AA issue is still there for BF2.

Performance in BF2142 is excellent. About 10-15 FPS gain, even more at times. The IQ seems a bit better too. I'll post some screenshots.
BF2 issue not resolved for AA. Guess it's here to stay. I think my X1950 Pro had this issue as well...I didn't play BF2 as much then so I'm not sure.

You can clearly see the lack of AA on the aircraft's stabilizer...this is 2x driver forced with quality adaptive aa.
