R600 does 6.2 Gflops

Quote:
Tarrari used RegEx Demonstration to compare a 2S Dual-Core Opteron with R600 powered boards and came up with an interesting result.

When running Kaspersky SafeStream, GPU powered search achieved 6.2 Gbps (775 MB/s) during scanning a hard drive array, quite close to maximum speed that RAID field could have provided, while DSDC Opteron processors were loaded between one and two percent. When Opteron was doing the same search, it was only 21x slower, at 295 Mbps, or 36 MB/s.

Hi, new here. I just installed the HR-03/R600 cooler on my 2900XT tonight. My load temps went from 68+(probably higher but the system would crash) to 57C. Hope to learn something here

Welcome aboard.

Wow, do the 512mbs really idle @ 68c? lol these 1GB cards idle @ 45c, mine runs prolly 70c @ 843mhz core under full load.

PS. so have you done much overclocking with the new cooler? Let us all know what speeds you achieve

I found that the 1GB (which you currently own) ran considerably cooler than the 512.

Thanks. No, those temps were under load (before and after the cooler was installed) after 2 hours of playing. It idles at 45C. I haven't done an overclocking yet. The system wasn't very stable with the Asus drivers. Now that I changed to the ATI drivers it is running much better.

Awesome. I was running Crossfire with a pair of 512s and it is very nice indeed for games...but all I do now is work so I dropped down to one and it still is the nicest card I have owned. I plan to LC mine, just have not decided which kit to use. The D-tek Fuzion looks god but provides no other cooling...the way my case is set up it would be hard to promote a lot of air flow to the card. I am looking at the same set up that AKAeric is using...but the EK block is sexy...and there is always Swfitech.
