When running for numbers it's good to optimize--kill off the services even...

but unless the OC is not stable you should be able to run as much and you want on your sig rig at once and bench without a BSOD.. a random BSOD while idling away is never a good sign. I seriously doubt the issue is the HW as you have great stuff. It's likely the BIOS settings--maybe something to do with the RAM timings or voltage..as that is pretty high strung RAM.

Thanks Cyber. It was one of those Robert Downey Jr. Less Than Zero BSOD during gaming. Maybe it is the RAM. My BIOS defaults to 800mhz and I upped that to 1066 with timing of 5-5-5-5(I'm new at this so I'm not sure if that is accurate). I'll check the corsair website. When I first set up the system I was constantly getting crashes to restart which steadily improved after dumping the Asus drivers and updating with each ATI release. I ran the MS mem test which said both sticks were ok.

You can increase that to 5 5 5 15 or maybe 5 5 5 12 without much of a hit and a good chance for increased stablility. Your CAS is really the key to speed--the rest are more about stablilty I think.

The 7.9 will not improve benchmark performance a lot, but the image in XP lots terrific.

dude, my mate feels for you. he had Crossfire HD2900's. we applied waterblocks to them. and now they dont work. one of them appears totally fried. the other one, the fan spins and all lights come on, but it beeps. so we took it to the local PC shop where he bought it, with the rceipt, and said it just died. he gets his brand new one next wednesday

Sorry to hear that. That is one of the things I worried about. That heatsink weighs a ton. It's quite a juggling act to hold the card, adjust the heatsink that is slippery once the thermal paste is applied and not have those stupid heatsink screws fall out. Yes, thank god for NewEgg
