I dunno.....it sounds like it's not a game that's crossfire compatible. I'm not sure, as I never played it when I was running two X1950 Pros.
Did you try enabling advanced Catalyst AI? This forces AFR mode, which is the best rendering mode for Crossfire. This works on non-Crossfire games sometimes....
Try as many different games as possible. You have the right idea as far as testing goes. One thing I do is take a screenshot with FRAPS, that way I know exactly where I was with what FPS.
I would also make sure that any pertinent BIOS settings are enabled for Crossfire performance, as I have one called cross graphics impeller. It should mention it in the mobo manual if something like this exists.
If you have FEAR I would try that....it supposedly benefits quite a bit from Crossfire.

Did you test if the distortions also occur with a single card (test both card individually). It might be that the BIOS flash messed up one of the cards.

Although they do flash to XT, there is of course no guarantee that it'll will work (the only guarantee is that you void your warranty). With most cards, it'll be fine, but there will definately be cards that cannot handle the higher clock speeds of the XT (They are PROs after all). Just like with CPUs. Most E6600's of a certain week can hit 3.5GHz, but there always is a bunch that don't even get close to that clock speed.

I never flash the BIOS on new cards... I always make sure it works first.

I was JUST about to post about Catalyst AI when you posted that.

OK.. When I enable Catalyst AI, CF works.... I get a huge performance boost in FPS. Doesnt matter if its advanced or standard I get the boost.

WHen I disable it, the CF becomes a single card. Simple as that.

This is Team fortress 2. Thats pretty much the end of the line.

I need to test this on a game that everyone KNOWS is CF compatible and see if I have any problems.

SH4 simply runs terrible while in cf mode (but I read that more people had this problem so Im not worried just yet).

Crap... it's been too long I had my crossfire rig.

That's a given... AI needs to be enabled... stupid of me to overlook that Sorry. This is standard for Crossfire since the beginning.

Also, if you somehow get ATITool to work, I would use it to overclock. Overclocking in 'overdrive' is never a good thing, since it drops the RAM timings down quite a bit... negating the extra speed that is achieved.

Also, with ATITool you're able to overclock both cards separately.

Ok. Flashed back to square one. Running at stock speeds for pro.

There are so many things wrong on so many levels that its hard for me to explain it clearly.

Lets begin with uninstalling ATI drivers.

I uninstalled everything. Reinstalled the pro drivers. Guess what? Unless you delete the Ati folder, CF does not work (even thoe it looks like its working) and it performs exactly like a single card (team fortress 2).

So uninstalled the ATI drivers again, and DELETED the f'ng folder this time and reinstalled.

Now CF works but I get the same funny lines on certain areas of the arena and also vertical rolling (right after I die) .

Nothing is overclocked.

Do I have a defective product? Could it be the mobo? When I spoke with the guys at sapphire tech they told me that team fortress 2 works with CF. So Im thinking I have a defective something ....

This is most definitely true for the memory. I tested at 1000 and 1153 (both stable for me) and the timings increased so much that the performance was actually quite worse.....tested with Crysis beta. I'm going to test with Rivatuner as well.

About the driver folders...if you're in XP then you want to follow this procedure for uninstalling drivers:
Run the uninstall utility for ATI software in add/remove progs
boot into safe mode by pressing F8 on start up.
After booting into safe mode run Driver cleaner pro for all ATI entries. Do this twice.
Delete the following folders:
c:\program files\ATI Technologies
c:\ATI
run a registry cleaner such as RegSupreme Pro or CleanMyPC and fix the problems, keep scanning until nothing appears.
Reboot and install the drivers w CCC.
In CCC enable Catalyst AI (always do this, even for single cards) and set it to advanced for AFR mode.

As you said you may want to reflash those cards....

Well actually you essentially OCed your cards to 743 MHz when you flashed to the XT BIOS. The only difference in the pro and xt is the clock speeds, rather than the number of shaders.
One thing you might want to try is stability testing each card individually to narrow down hardware issue from software. You can install ATI Tool and run the artifact scanner for an hour or two. If any artifacts are going to pop up they should within this time frame.

Also, could you post a screenshot of the artifacting that you're having? Are you using a CRT or LCD monitor? The Vertical scrolling may be a refresh rate issue....make sure that the right refresh rate is set for you res in CCC, and if not then force it in the display options section.

Thanks for the reply again. ATI tools does not work on this system since I installed these cards .Used to work with my old card (7900gs). Now it either crashes itself as soon as I launch it or it crashes my system. Using latest 27b beta.

THIS IS ON 2 DIFFERENT BUILDS and 2 DIFFERENT HARDDRIVES!

Ran another test. Installed world in conflict and ran it in xfire, xfire did not work (sometimes its not on even when it is checked on and yes ars is on max ai), had to reboot machine to get it to work (been doing this to activate it).
Loaded up WIC , and loaded up game. Game crashed immediately and froze my computer.

I am going to call the guys at sapphire tech and ask them what the he** is wrong here.

And yes I have reflashed to Pro and no overclock period. Still same issues.

Installed and loaded up C&c3 it actualy seems to run. Cant see frames in it tho because there is no console.

Tried to load up WIC again and this time it loaded up. There are alot of flickering under letters and words, numbers. ALot of pause and go's too. Deffinetly running screwed up.

I installed F.E.A.R. It seems to be working in CF mode. Could anyone tell me how to see FPS in fear?

I'm unaware of a console command for FEAR, but you can always use FRAPS.
