This is what I'm using right now. Modular with only one monster 12v rail at 60amps.

Multi-rail designs are a gimick that cost you performance. The rails aren't built as heavy as single rail models because they don't need to carry as many amps. Also, there's usually a couple of amps lost here and there as one rail leaches amps from the other to supply proper amounts of amps to the component in question.

Aside from Silverstone, consider PC Power & Cooling. Those are my two favs at the time.

Price isn't the only thing to consider when comparing CompUSA to the egg or others. You kinda "outgrow" CompUSA after a while when you notice that they don't carry a lot of the real enthusiast stuff. Betcha you can't find one single-rail psu there. Not completely knocking the place, I had one pretty close to where I lived and I often picked up odds and ends there, mostly out of laziness but it served its' purpose.

Good luck.

Really, I had heard that multiple rails allowed for a more constant flow of volts. I was actually looking at a thermaltake 750W that had 4 12 volt rails. Thanks for the info man, Rep +

I think you should be more worried with the brand name of the PSU than its "rated wattage". Just because a PSU is "700 watts" doesn't mean it's good. Stick with brands like Silverstone, PCPnC, or Corsair.
As far as the GPU, I would wait for the new ATI cards to be released.

This website has many links to 2900xt reviews on it. The first 4 also review power consumption. Note that the numbers you see are of the entire system, and not the card alone.

A 750w PSU is recommend for crossfire, not single card use. AMD recommend a 550W for a single 2900xt. I happily run a 2900pro, overclocked beyond xt speeds, on a 620W PSU.

Now, to clear up confusion over the 8-pin socket:

A 6-pin PCIe cable will fit in there.
It is designed for a 8-pin PCIe 2.0 cable, which has 2 extra ground wires. Yup, the extra two pins in the 8-pin socket are just ground. That is why people can oc just as far with 2 6-pin cable as those with a 6-pin and 8-pin. I'm assuming it's so the high current demands of high-end cards don't burn out ground wires, so they just got 2 more - I dunno.

So, if you're feeling adventurous, plug a 6-pin into the 8-pin socket, and attach ground(black)wires to the spare 2 pin sockets - obviously, while turned off. This will turn on ATI overdrive, stops ATI Tool crashing (it crashes because it isn't being allowed to read temperature), and lets you see the temperature.

I have a modular PSU, so just bought a PCIe 2.0 cable to save me the hassle.
