Yes PCIe 2.0 is also able to provide much more power. HOWEVER, all this does is remove the need for a second PCIe power connector on future cards (until they start taking even more power), additionally, most motherboards now have a separate molex power connector on the board that supplies additional power to the PCIe bus.

I would be very surprised if power was the issue because the cards get all the power they need from the pcie power cable(s).

Also die shrinks reduce power by crazy amounts. And yet again, they also unhosed the AA bug with the 3870's. We had 2 2900xt's in the shop this last weekend and we could not run crysis with AA almost at all.

I would just like to state for the record that my 8800gts 640mb got awful framerates in tf2. I tried everything, and I running vista x64. I got a 3870 and my frame rates TRIPLED (from 30 to 90) so I dunno what exactly the issue was...but my 8800 was ticking me off...
Anyone had good success with the bios update on their 3870?

I did. the bios update was officially released because the first batch of 38x0 cards had a bug in the bios. It's all good now.
