Its not the cooler, the bios is Locked. This is confirmed on Canucks Hardware, where they installed a DuOrb onto the 3870, had great temps (the Load temps on the DuOrb were equal or less than the idle temp of the Stock Cooler) and they couldnt get it any higher than 860. =( im kinda dissappointed, but i dont mind cause its such a sexy card. =)

That still does not mean it's locked. There may be some physical limitation on the core preventing anything over 860.

Kind of bittersweet, the 2900 is capable of over 900mhz on air, over 1.1ghz on ln2.

Boy I hope there is a workaround for that.

it might happen but usaly u get pixel errors before that
but it seams 860 is the limit for all that's wierd dont u think. if it was only one card that another matter
it realy should variate a litle where the wall is, i cant remember i ever heard of a card that has the exact same wall on every card not like this anyway 860 stable no pixel errors 861 and above black screen

in any case anyone think amd will admitt too it if thy locked the cards?
i think i will have my cards running on stock cooling untill i know more(not keeping it if this cant be resolved) 20 days until i hafto return it if im not gonna keep

What were you expecting? 1.2GHz? There is probably a way around it, surely a volt modded bios with aftermarket cooling would be helpful.

If it is physical limitations then the limit should differ on every single card. If every 3870 owner starts moaning about hitting 860MHz max like now, then it is definitely a lock. We all know that 860MHz isn't the physical limit of the 3870's, but it is the digital limit until somebody makes a hacked BIOS for somebody to flash on.
