Default Flashing a HD2900PRO to XT

My RMA came in this week. Newegg traded my x1950xt for a hd2900pro (the 512bit version). Now I have two cards. Obviously the hd3850 is better, but I have heard that there is the possibility of flashing the pro to xt. Reason I'm interested is because in Linux there is no way to overclock the newer ATI cards so I'm stuck at stock, and at stock the hd3850 is the best choice, but if I can flash that pro I would have a better card.

HD3870>HD2900XT>HD3850>HD2900PRO on most reviews (give or take a few frames here and there).

But, the 2900pro overclocks as if it was a 2900xt.

Just so you know, flashing a pro to an xt just increases the core voltage a bit, and possibly changes memory timings (not sure). So, you could just oc the pro as it is.

I'm in Linux. No overlocking there. I don't care about temps since the card is under water.

See if rovclock works with current GPU hardware. This seems to be a guide to rovclock.

There are a few BIOS's on techpowerup. Problem is, I am not sure which one you would need. You can also use the one from nicksfire guide. You could also mod your own BIOS to set what ever clocks you want.

http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/i...-E&memSize=512

As stated, the XT BIOS will raise the clocks a bit and the core volts, but you can achieve the same speeds with the pro BIOS. I know you can't OC with software, but the BIOS tweak would be the way to go. Just be careful.

What BIOS should I get? I have a Sapphire HD2900PRO 512MB. There are four BIOS files on techpowerup and they all seem to be the same (except for the compile date). I also found an ATI Winflash thing, which is like WinFlash (flash in Windows). Always had good experiences with Winflash.
