Weird. Do you think that they would produce these cards and not advertise them?

For 3DMark performance maybe... but what about gaming?

I still think what I said makes sense... I mean.. .bring out a $450 flagship monster, but no drivers until March.

Then bring out something that supposedly DOUBLES the performance 3 months after the "good" drivers?

Seems like a bizarre strategy to me...

A couple of thoughts if I may:

- I presume the 4000 series will continute with the 512bit ringbus architecture and 256bit external mem connection?

- 3870X2 has been released by AIB partners as PCIe2.0 it's just that ATI stuck with 1.1 for their reference cards for ease-of-production and early-release purposes.

What is AIB?

Also, I think the bridge chip is also PCI-e 1.

I haven't even gotten a chance to CF the 3870 X2 and they are already slated to become obsolete...

This is getting tiresome for me...lol. I had barely broken in the 2900XTas when they were discontinued...

Anyone else think this is too much too soon?

Maybe I'm just old...

I'm with you on this one, my friend... this is getting excessive.

I was going down the same path with regards to CF with 3870 X2's...

Now I'm not so sure.

I mean... really, giving the CrossfireX of the 3870 X2 a 3 month lifespan is sort of ridiculous!

No it's true. When it was time to upgrade the pro was out, just over 3 months later the HD38's are out.

Just ignore the news for a while and enjoy your X2's!

ATI has no choice but to obsolete it's entire lineup every few months, if it wants to compete with nvidia. I remember a time when a high-end video card would last you 2 years.

AIB= Add In Board. Basically ATI provides the GPU and a reference design for the PCB to its AIB partners(i.e. HIS, Asus, Sapphire, Diamond etc) and they either use the reference design design or create their own PCB but they all use the same GPU
