release the 9800 gtx?

From my very own experience, the G92 GTS does not "beat" the GTX, otherwise I would've gone SLI on that for less money.

This is one of those things you can't tell unless you've tried both yourself. I've ran a G92 GTS for a month and decided to switch back to GTX and then go SLI. I realized that numbers aren't everything. The GTS does provide higher FPS and higher score in benchmarks, but my games don't render in charts that compare numbers. The lesser memory and memory bus on the GTS caused me stutters in some places and lots of fluctuation in FPS, while the GTX can offer me a slightly lower overall, but very stable and constant FPS.

If I were into benching I'd choose the GTS without a doubt, but playing games at 1680x1050 screams for much more than just the core. So as for a card to own for gaming, the GTX is simply the better choice. I had both a G92 GTS and GTX at hand and I could sold either to SLI the other, and I chose to rid the G92. I was certain I would rather deal with the heavier power consumption and more heat just to ensure my games run smooth at my resolution.

Alright and maybe the fact that both GTXs are in awesome black......

I know another member here that changed 2 HD3780's in crossfire for a GTX as it offered better gaming.

I don't know how much it would add to the price for a 512bit memory bus? At least on single GPU cards.

Relatively it's really not much. It's like walking into the Audi dealer buying a $66k RS4 and not bothering to pay $4k more for GPS navigation.

Or more realistically, if I'm to buy a $500 GPU I really wouldn't mind paying $20-30 more for the 512-bit bus. Who cares if it's not that good with newer memory, I'd rather have 1GB GDDR3 on 512-bit than 1GB GDDR4 on 256-bit.

ok.

With GDDR5 we might see more bandwidth through a 256bit bus anyway.

I was debating that myself. I put my 8800 GTX in again last night after a while of gaming with my 3870 X2 but definitely the quality of the picture and the frames were higher with the 3870 X2 - in my experience.

GDDR4 was hyped, but ultimately didn't produce results. GDDR5 is supposed to create more bandwidth at 256-bit than GDDR4 at 512-bit. We will see if it's just hype.

Lol I hope AMD gets it right this time.

I'm a fan of AMD and I don't want to see them fail do as badly as they did with the current cards again
