I have to say I'm liking how ATi is doing things lately. With that in mind, I sure hope they don't pop out the 4-series as revamped 3-series. Without knowing much about either company's position, if I were ATi I'd go ahead and send something punchy to the shelves and put a little hurt down on Nvidia.

I can't wait to see how these perform. ATI is back in the game. Nvidia might soon be regretting using G92 in the 9 series cards. I'm liking the GDDR5 RAM and the near 4GHz clocks. Be afraid Nvidia be very afraid.

Yes that is correct, almost forgot about that. So as I presumed earlier the 256mb controller should do fine. Cannot wait until these come out, good chance I am building my next pc around this puppy.

First off the memory bus width is measured in bits not megabytes (MB). If the memory bus width for the 4870 was 512MB it would have about 2 Million Terabytes/s of memory bandwidth, ROFL. Now that that's straitened out, as TnB= Gir said all a 512-bit wide memory bus would do is add a whole lot of extra cost with next to no performance benefit because the super high clocks of the GDDR5 RAM will feed the GPU with 100GB/s+ of memory bandwidth which should be plenty. Why do you think Nvidia backtracked to a 256-bit bus as well from the original 384-bit and 320-bit of the G80 GPUs? It's just not necessary to have a 512-bit bus at this point.

If you think for one second that the 3k -> 4k series jump will be ANYTHING REMOTELY like the 8 series -> 9 series jump, you are so mistaken.

New core, unlocked shaders/core frequencies, GDDR5 (!!), 2x the TMUs, a stupid amount of stream processors, and competitive pricing.

Can't wait. Now all I have to say is...
GO ATI DRIVER TEAM GOOOOO!!!!!!

*drools* unlocked shaders make me happy in the face.

It's too bad the 4870x2 won't be available right at the initial release. Oh well, i'll just buy a 4870 and then tri-fire... or should i wait and quadfire? Yeah, maybe i should... but wait, tri-fire is practically as good as quadfire now... but maybe the new drivers will...

The stream of consiousness gets incomprehensible after that. I am so psyched for this release, if ATi pushes back the release date, i'mma cry

It won't come in May I don't think. But I do believe whole-heartedly that the 4k's will drop in the first week of June!

OC'ing these things will be beast oO.

As said the cards are clocked to fit power envelopes, so OC'ing should come out to be quite impressive!

So psyched, I'm going to stop posting about it because I can't seem to stop :P

You are correct, my knowledge on what makes the GPU tick and or faster is limited. Though what I do know is when these come out, I am looking forward to the reviews.

If the 4xxx series come out that soon, that means that the prices of the 3850's and 3870's should drop quite a bit, right?
