It just blows me away the visual quality and smoothness you get with this thing, and that's with running same resolutions, same in game settings, vsync on both cards, yadda yadda yadda. Running both these cards back to back, it's a noticeable difference.

I repeat, you will NOT be disappointed.

thanks a lot for your reply helped me convince my self to get one lol

So i got my rig up and running today, installed the 8.6 drivers and the hotfix, and i'm still getting poor performance in COD4.

I have the FPS counter in the top right, and it says that my FPS varies anywhere from 23-143. Sometimes it gets really bogged down - to like 2 FPS for a second or two.

Is this an overheating problem? is there any way to fix it?

Are you able to monitor the temps that you're getting while you're playing? RivaTuner can do this, but I honestly have no idea if it's compatible with the new series yet.

Hmm...

I don't think that sounds high enough for it to be an overclocking/downclocking issue. I get about the same temperatures on my HD3850 with stock fan speeds and it's never downclocked.

Did you have an Nvidia card previously before your HD4850? If so, driver remnants are sometimes responsible for little oddities like this.

Sounds like a driver issue.

Run driver cleaner and clean out any nvidia and ati traces. Then reinstall the hotfix+8.6 drivers.

I run at 1920x1200 and get 45+ at all times, so something is up with your card, it's not running at normal performance.

I'll reinstall the drivers if you think it will help, but there was no nvidia card installed during this OS's lifetime

Did you install the 8.6 hot fix drivers?
Do you have SP1 installed?
