Thats what I was thinking...

So it did shut down correctly while you were in safe mode?
Boot in normal mode, go to task manager, processes tab, and figure out all of the non-windows processes. Try disabling some of them one at a time and restarting to see if one of them could be causing this (only do the ones that you know what they are, don't kill anything vital )

Worse case scenario, your CPU uses say, 110W, 4850, 110W, that's only 220W. Even if the rest of your system consumed another 80W of 12v, you'd still have headroom on the 12v rail.

It still could be the PSU, as in, it's just worn out and failing, but lets leave that as the last possibility.

we'll let me try to see if it shuts down in safemode.

i will test that later tonight. and will probably post up findings tomorrow morning.

i wouldn't be surprised if the psu is starting to fail (well may be i would, enermax isn't suppose to fail on me), well i have had the PSU for a very long time

DUDE dont use the power button in start, it will put your computer to sleep, and in worse case if your Vista doesnt have the latest update it will hang.

You can see the "choose what to do" next to that power button, sorry i am using my Mac lap now so i dont know what exactly it is, but it is easy to spot on the right side of the power button in start. When click on it there should be a list of sleep, shutdown, restart. Vista known for this problem.

Best of luck.

P/s: A new PSU say 550 to 600W should give stable your system, and incase you are going crossfire a 1000W will do.

I do not think the issue is because he does not have enough Amps or Watts. He is fine when he stresses or play games.

lol i ran driver cleaner in safe mode.

i just tried uninstalling vista SP1

I installed the newest hotfix drivers TWICE.

and yes i don't think psu is of the problem here, last night i was playing

assassin's creed, TF2, CSS, CS, Geometry wars. Also ran some 3dmark tests, and all came up fine.

@modfreak

i don't use the physical button to shutdown the computer (until it gets to the black screen) i use start -> shutdown.

@kaivorth

i cleared Cmos several times, and i also did a bios flash for reasons seen in this thread:
