Default 4850 CF or 4870??

Okay so I've been a bit Intel/Nvidia fanboy ever since I started into computers, and especially during the 8800s series life time, however now with the only real "new" good cards being the 200 series with a incredible price tha I can't afford I look to ATI.

Ive seen different benchmarks with teh 4850 vs different things, not all of them agree, but I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience with a single 4850 vs a higher 8800 series card, and maybe even
4850 vs 4850 CF vs 4870 vs 8800 GT SLI vs 8800GTS G92 single and SLI?

I've never done CF before, or ATI lol, well cept for a budget 700pro once

Are you going to be upgrading your monitor? If you're going to stay with that 15.4 incher, just get the 4870, which will save you $100 over two 4850's and then start saving for a bigger monitor! At that resolution, you don't need too much power.

I can run Crysis pretty well (mostly low settings) on my little 17" with my ancient 7800GTX. (Can't wait to upgrade to my 22")

4870 for sure, though I would get a better cooler for it.

You don't plan on using that with that tiny little monitor, do you?

If you don't intend to CF 4870's then CF 4850's for $300 with discounts and rebates.
From this test, CF 4850's running close to CF 4870's.

For such a small monitor, CrossFire would be a waste of money. Heck, reaching for a 4870 would be a waste. A 4850 will be just fine. I believe for 22" monitors and below, the 4850 is the wiser investment. I believe they're coming out with factory overclocked models this month which should have more overclocking headroom and better stock cooling than the first round of 4850s.

If you buy 4850 CF, that means a more expensive mobo and your electricity bill will go up a bit, and 15.4" for CF? Overkill.

I suggest you get the 4870.

Guys, the 15.4" is his laptop monitor

I say go with the HD4850's in Crossfire. You can do it for about $375, and it will net probably 30-60% more frames than the HD4870 depending on the game.

Now that I see the 'm' beside the 8600, it's all beginning to make sense!
