Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone has tried to make up the Vcore of the HD3850 trough a softmod? (link to guide here) I've seen a guide saying it can be done by modifying the Vcore value in the BIOS, and on a serbian forum a guy has posted an unlocked bios that suplies 1.35V to the GPU (link here).

Did you try any softmod for your 3850 or 3870 for that matter? I guess if it works for the 3850 it works for the 3870 and viceversa.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to soft-mod the voltage through BIOS settings. As for if it can be pushed that far, that's a good question

did not use RBE but this one.
many 3850 users could up the vcore using bios mod,but it was not possible on 3870.
i flashed my card several times with a modded bios using the above editor but it did not increase the stable core clocks since it was already at the maximum voltage possible,it should work fine on your 3850 though.

Thanks guys for the replies, at one time it looked like no one would answer.



I've installed an Accelero S1 and the temps dropped from 90°C under load to 35-37°C, the GPU was up to 770MHz no sweat, but for more it seems to need some Vcore, at least that's my guess.

BTW, 37°C load in passive mode. I also have a turbo-module, but I felt there's absolutely no reason to put it on.


You may be right, I will up the Vcore in smaller steps. Since it's on 55nm, 1.35V should be the maximum maximum, I would be happy @850MHz and 1.325V.

Thanks for the link, looks like there are ways. I was intrigued as to how did ATI make the Vmod so easy to make, back in the days of the X800, X1900 to Vmod you needed to weld rezisors, shunt overcurrent fuses and stuff like this. If there's more than one soft that can make it, it seems like ATI made it easier for OCers to push their cards.
