I'll admit it, I'm an ATI hater, mostly because they burned me years ago with a card that they never figured out how to write drivers for... I think they will find a way to fail.

I've only seen one person claim the 2GB 4870X2, and that was just a news post from another forum. How many people are claiming the $499 price at release? And I'm not talking about price gouging or super duper versions... I'm talking about the MSRP of the 4870X2 1GB at release. It will be $499.

Its will easily be $499... Pauldovi man, I'm sorry but you're wrong.

Good point. Nvidia got a little overconfident in their market domination.

I think it will be $509, plus shipping it will be $518 maybe.

ugh, $499.99 sounds so much better than $500, half a grand on a videocard, i don't know if i can swallow that, as much as i want to.....
maybe if i sell a bunch of my unwanted tech.....hmmmm Two of these in Quadfire should beat tri-280's by a fair margin unless they get a huge SLI driver boost

I do suspect that pricing it higher, even though fewer will be sold, would result in more revenue for AMD. But, as crazy is it sounds, this may not be the most important thing. I think what AMD is aiming for is an incresed volume of shipments rather than the profit. Why? Well, the more cards they ship, the greater their marketshare and this is going to come at the expense of Nvidia. If they can really manage to dent Nvidia's marketshare, that gives developers less and less of an incentive to optimize for Nvidia's architecture. In the short-term the cash would be nice, but in the long term less Nvidia bias in games is going to do a lot more for them. Besides that, an increase in marketshare will do a lot to boost consumer and investor confidence that AMD has not lost its ability to deliver products and execute launches. The launch of the HD4k series was executed flawlessly, and I think it really shocked a lot of people. It's nice to see that they aren't going to just sit around and profit at their current sucess, but instead seems like they are indeed still looking at long-term effects.

$499, more marketshare, more ATI fanboys, more middle finger to nVidia.
nVidia, the way it's meant to be played....through ATI.
