i don't think it will be 2gb ddr5. Not with a 256 mbit memory bus anyway, that would be kind of pointless, they are supposed to be the experts here.

I think the whole 2GB thing is a rumor as well.

If your answer is no, please provide reasoning and/or what you think the actual price will be.
Getting back on topic....I don't think that the actual $499 release will be what one will pay to have a 4870x2 in hand.

Here's why...I have two Asus 3870x2 at the moment.

First I bought one in April 08 from someone who had one online from eBay...I paid $ 470...shipped. I was lucky at that time as it could not be ordered anywhere in fact it was said "that they made a limited amount of them"...therein lay my reasoning.

After buying the first one I did find that there where others available oversees in Europa though for $300 euros....needless to say the conversion rate to usd $ was horrible.

I ended up buying my second 3870x2 from Canada about one and half months after the first one...for $ 490 shipped.....the cdn $ made this lower otherwise it would amount to more than 500.

Of course one will expect the same....limited production numbers at first then great lots afterwards....

This effects pricing as retailers want their yachts and people whom want the new tech sooner than everyone else will pay for it...and retailers know this...

For this reason the 4870x2 will sell above $499 iniatially then gradually ease in price........

I guarantee you this will be how it goes down.

It's going to be DDR5...whether 2gb or one...maybe maybe not...no doubt about it that...ATI...is in a battle...and keeping the 4870x2 on top is " literally the siege tactic " that will assure both the customers and nvidias customers that they might just want to change over to ATI....much sooner than Nvidia would like...lol.

I would be inclined to agree. Same with most PC components but particularly true for GPUs.
