About two weeks ago I purchased a Sapphire Radeon 3870 X2 for around $350. It was to be part of my pc for college, which inlucdes a intel core 2 quad and 4 gig of ram. Anyway I got the whole thing built and running, it plays games in an absolutely stunning manner... note that my previous pc has a pentium d and a radeon x1600 pro, anywho I used the computer for about 6 hours and aparently something went out on the video card and the colors on the screen went all crazy on me. I rebooted the system thinking that perhaps the card had overheated as i'd read they had some heat issues and i could find no simple way to up the fan speed from the 25% it runs stock (not nearly high enough). The pc came up and worked just fine but for some reason the only time it would freak out is when I would try to play 3d games. Go figure, it would do everything but what it was really designed to do. I purchased the card from newegg but (word of warning) they won't take anything back if you cut the UPC off the box and send it in for a mail in rebate. So now i'm stuck with the crappy Sapphire warranty. It's been two weeks since i sent it in and I havn't heard anything nor have i gotten the card back. The only nice thing that's happened so far is the fact that they waived the $15 fee they charge for warranty work. Now after that tale of woe I would like to find out if anyone here has had any experience with sapphire's warranty service, if anyone has any experience with these cards, or if anyone has any advice other than call them up and scream bloody murder and where the heck is my card. Thanks in advance.

I would say (even though I don't own the card but I do know customer server :P) that you need to call them up, and ask for a date at to which you would be receiving the card and when you do get it back, before you try to do anything... Get that fan speed cranking, cause that was a major issue with that card... :/

Ah man, that's tough news. Both of my x2's are blowtorches without rivatuner. No wonder it died, the fan fixed @ 25% flat out WILL not cool those gpu's and will eventually have nuclear meltdown. Call them, get it squared away. =\ Good luck!

Yeah, i tried rivatuner i was a bit displeased with it though, I would like something that will auto adjust the fan speed based on card temperature... I use ATI tool for my old x1600. Rivatuner does have the ability to auto adjust based on temp i think but for some reason it doesn't work with the 3870 x2.

I never had trouble with my 3870x2 overheating and i didn't change the fan speed, it stayed arround 75-78c under load pretty much all the time.

I think my issue may have just been a fluke... like i said the weird thing was it would display video just fine on the desktop but as soon as i went to play 3d games it would freak out on me. I'm guessing it was a bad cap somewhere on the board or something of that nature, something that, when put under load, would start having problems.

try Asus Smart Doctor, it can change the fan speed automatially and also based on thermal speifications (ex: 60c, 80% fan speed)
download link list (vista 32/64, xp 32/64): http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

Yeah, i think it might have just been a fluke, my x1600 deals with heat very well, it runs at 60 - 65 when gaming and hasn't had any trouble. How long have you had your card? Do you like it?
