Default Any recommendations?(4850 vs 4870)

I was just lookign at reviews and benchmarks of the two cards and was disappointed at the 4850 getting low fps in some games(crysis obviously, world in conflict, some simulator game) at higher resolutions, even in crossfire, and was thinking even though now I have an old monitor with a max 1280x1024 resolution in a few months I'd like to get a new bigger widescreen monitor, I'm just worried I wouldn't be able to play anything now at the resolutions of whatever I get, and thinking even if I don't that maybe within a year the card wouldn't even be able to run new stuff then very well, and I figured just spending the extra $100 now might end up saving me a bunch more money in the long run in prolonging having to replace my card so soon. Was also thinking maybe I'd get a crossfire board instead ot the p35 lanparty I was getting so maybe later I could just stick another one in if it starts to get slow.

Wondering if you guys think that'd be a good idea? Also, if so, would the X38 lanparty DK be a good crossfire board or what about the P45 one?

X38/4870 combo for sure.
By the time you're ready for a second card, they'll be cheap cheap.

I was wondering the same earlier. Get the X38 with a 4870 and as the guy above me said, they'll be cheap by the time you come to buying your second card. That's what I intend on doing

Ok, cool, thanks. There's no problems with the X38s? Some reviews of it on newegg had people complaining ATI cards didn't work on them(well, 3870s were what they complained about actually but I just want to make sure no one is having this problem with 4800s)

The issues were with the 3870X2.

Yeah, just with with the 3870X2's. The X38 doesn't suffer that much performance loss from the X48's to justify the price.

x38/48 and 4870, no brainer for the extra cost compared with an 4850, you won't regret it when you change your monitor.

cheers.

I play all my games maxed at 1920x1200. (sans crysis) Getting 45-60+ FPS all the time.

Both the HD4850 and HD4870 are great cards, and they seem to have similar price/performance ratios.

If I had to buy a video card right now, assuming I didn't have the HD4850, I'd probably go for the HD4870. It's got better cooling, a bigger name, and does 15-30% better in games.
