Default 1 or 2 crossfire bridges? Proof?

I was just reading a post by a fella stating he had "both bridges on too" on his crossfire setup...is this helpfull/suggested?
I only use one, thinking the 2nd was for 3-way? Oh, and does only using one bridge cut you down to 8x crossfire as opposed to x16?

Please, I have seen this discussed on many forums googling. I would like to see some kind of definitive

UPDATE:

I have decided to do some benching...lets see how this stacks up!
I did a fresh restart, ran 3Dmark06, then a fresh restart and another run.

Here are the first results. Definitive? Not really. Lets try some more...

Here I have used Half-Life 2 Lost Coast benchmark tool. Again the PC was restarted before each run so the results would be unaffected my background apps and memory buffers.

Seems to be a pattern? It seems that using 2 bridges MAY increase FPS by about 2, and MAY increase your 3Dmark06 score by 50-75 marks. Does this justify the use of 2 bridges? I guess it really depends on your system. Keep in mind that my GPU/CPU/Chipset combination may act differently than anyone else. I will post back here with any more info I dig up!

I am pretty sure that the older cards needed 2 cf bridges (2900xt, etc) but with that said I don't know why the new cards would have them then...

I usually use 2 bridges out of sheer determination. And it allows for more card stability in the lanes, (waterblocks are heavy) that helps too.

Benches will be nice. I have heard rumors about graphical errors with 2 as opposed to 1, but this could have been older cards. Anyone find any documentation? Why would it not be provided?

http://ati.amd.com/technology/crossf...worksdemo.html

demo shows 2...

But then they have photos with only one. I checked AMD/ATI forums at ATI site....still no solid answers.

..and 60 extra 3dMark points on top of 18K

A bit useless if you ask me, but well, a free performance increase is always welcome I guess, as small as it would be.

Why not just use it? It isn't going to affect anything. If you notice weird problems since you put it on, then take it off. Then you know you're only losing 2 FPS.
