Default HD4850 Memory past 1100? Here's how.

When I first got my HD4850 - I couldn't Overclock the memory past 1100Mhz.
Well now I know how - and I will let you in on a secret that will add 10-12Gb/s to your memory

[Note- Apparently this works well for the HD4870 too.]

First things first - Open CCC [Right click on your desktop]

Once In Catalyst Control Center - Unlock your card's overdrive and proceed to Auto-Tune.

Select HD4850 and click "run" - You should see this:

Let Auto-Tune take its time making sure everything is stable. My resulting clock - 690/1180

With GPU.Z in the shot

Now let me show you how much you have gained -

STOCK

Auto-Tuned

63.6Gb/s to 75.5Gb/s.
Quite an improvement

Conclusion -
NCspecV81 and I have confirmed that CCC slightly bumps the voltage up on the memory when it autotunes. This works out well for us - as little effort leads to big gains. Note that your card may clock higher or lower than mine and If it is unstable at what CCC Auto-Tunes - Take it down by 10MHz increments until it is stable.

Happy overclocking

According to my DMM voltage is slightly bumped when using autotune on the memory. Mine finally settled at around 2.0v's up from 1.85v's.

I am guessing it does the same for the 4870 as well? I can't get my memory past 1050 with artifacting.

This is mine...

GPU-Z Validation

690/1138

Something that interests me about the voltage is, when you change the fan speed in the xml file, there are voltage targets in there.. I wonder if changing those changes the voltage to your card, or if they're just there for the sake of being there

I wonder that as well - but I don't feel comfortable touching them
