Default Busted 4850! Yay!

Looks like my 4850 is going bad, fast. I can't load anything now that involves any sort of... moving textures. ATITool, Furmark, Games... Any of those instantly lock up my PC (either black screen or full artifact screen while fan switched to 100% - quite odd). Not to mention even typing this is choppy. Good thing I got it from Bestbuy and they allow exchanges!

So now I hope it's my card and not something else. Guess I'll find out after I head to Bestbuy.

Hey I think we may be in the same boat. I'm going to get a new motherboard first to make sure. Some things are a little whacky over here with my computer for some reason.

Did you crank up the fan speed?

Normally it runs at low fans speeds which make it kinda hot

Fan speed was at 40-55%, idle at 47c. No OC or mod (voltage or other). Just started happening all of a sudden. Thought it was my Ram or PSU, but after running Memtest and stressing my RAM and CPU at 100% for over an hour, that doesn't seem like it's it.

And the fact that it locks up now everytime I enter a game... Just out of the blue. Time to try out this new 4850. Hope it works.

Wow do I feel stupid. The PCI-E connector on my Corsair is tucked away in the back and didn't see it, but it came lose. That explains why it kept locking up when it went out of power save.

It's always the most obvious thing that you overlook. I went though everything besides checking the actual modular cables on my Corsair...

Sorry. new here and have seen peops with high rep without tech knowledge. Didn't mean to offend.

If your going to invest into another ATI card, ATI reccomends Diamond or Sapphire. The tech I spoke to assured me that they were their top partners and manufacturers

No offense taken. It's not lack of tech knowledge, it's the lack of thinking of the obvious (I had a feeling it was PSU related, but didn't think to check if the PCI-E connector came lose on the PSU since I haven't touched it, at all).

Missing something obvious has nothing to do with tech knowledge. It's just that, not thinking of the obvious. If you say that never happened to you, I would have to say you are lying.

No need for another card, just got one to test and see if it was the card before I saw what the issue was. I hear Diamond/Sapphire customer support is pretty horrid though.
