ATI HD4870X2 Owners Thread

Wow I just loaded up 3dmark06 and I can't even get past Firefly Forest without a full out system freeze.....no BSOD though. I backed my GPU down to 842 from 852 and it locked up about halfway through FF F (compared to immediately at 852/1000) so I'm going down a little farther....sheesh.

You would think that Vantage would stress the GPU more than 06, but I guess that's not the case here.


There isn't a bug with FF forest that I'm unaware of, is there?

yep.....get the orange FAIL logo after cat install......restart.......no ATI supported HW detected.......tried DLing from ATI and GURU......same ish....8.11s go thru like cake.....no problems whatsoever......i only wanted to upgrade cause i though may be 12s were better i'll wait for 9.1

Sure it's not your cpu oc?

I loved the 8.12 cats, never had an issue.

i guess i will just have to try both the 8.12 and 8.11 and see which one works, lol. any info on the the 9.1 release date?

Well I tried backing down to stock and it passed, so I ran it at GPU=837MHz and it passed. I failed at 852, then passed again at 842. So I'm going to test 842/950 now, and so on. Hopefully I'll find some stable settings. I had no idea that Firefly Forest was this stressful.

Failed and driver recovered at 842/950...running 842/940. This is crazy! I've run Vantage way higher than this. I suppose this is stressing the GPU in different ways since it's not designed around DX10 architecture.

That's so weird, because it would install fine, and the only error message I got was because the only of the GPUs would be compatible with the drivers. Maybe it's a BIOS thing, I haven't flashed mine yet and I got it right when they came out.

hmm....then w.t.h. am i doing wrong?.....after uninstall i restart, then go to AppData and delete ati stuff in local and roaming, then the folder in program files......restart.....run 8.12......sure takes a lot longer to install than 8.11.....then that stupid orange fail sign

Try running DCP after the restart after uninstalling, then restart again and install 8.12s.
