I don't know which is why I am asking?

I noted that that XP32 bit drivers of the same version also denoted support of quadfire.

I honestly don't know

Maybe you can use the CCC to crossfire them, but it would be crossfire only in name since XP can't use more than two GPUs at once.

But is that rule applicable only to 32 bit XP? 64 bit xp shares quite a few similarities to vista 64 bit.

This is frustrating. AMD has not responded and google has been no help.

But...I heard around the forums that XP x64 is a crude port of a Windows Server, and in any case I don't think it's any closer to Vista than x86 XP.

Dude, it doesn't work....what do you want us to tell you? That it will work? Cause that's obviously a lie....

At the kernel level xp 64 is as different to vista 64 as the x86 versions are.

The problem is at the base level code. 64 or 32bit, it's still the same code.

First I'm not asking for impossible answers so please be polite.

If you can link me to an article or test that demonstrates that it will not work that would be great.

Posting that it doesn't work without any evidence other than your opinion is frankly a wasted post...

What I linked earlier is published by AMD in their driver release notes that clearly states that XP64 supports quadfire.

If it doesn't due to some ancient limitation of XP as russiangrimreaper has alluded to then so be it.

The only post I have found so far in the AMD forums indicates that vista is needed for certain crossfire configs. However, the poster (not an AMD tech) very likely did not test it with XP64 given its lack of popularity.

I would prefer to stay with XP64 on the system that I intend to test both cards in and rather than waste hours reformatting and reloading, I am trying to find definitive proof either way.

I tried with my 3870X2's in xp pro, didn't work.
The second card was seen but never recognized as anything other than a vga adapter.

I figured I came off rude, I didn't mean to, I apologize.

I really didn't quite understand what you were getting at. But now that I understand, I'm surprised it's that hard to find out! There's really no information on Quadfire in XP?

Well, just remember that 64-bit XP is effectively the same as 32-bit XP. So I guess you're just wanting to know, for SURE, that Quadfire doesn't work in XP? You'd think there would be someone complaining that they can't get it working...

But I will say that dual 4870 X2s show up as four separate graphics cards under your devices, I'm sure you know that, so there is no difference between two 4870X2s and four 4870s. Since XP will supposedly only recognize two graphics devices, I don't think drivers can overcome that, so long as the graphics cores all show up separately.

thanks Grunion, was the XP Pro the 64 bit version though?

I have spent a fair amount of time perusing forums without any real luck. My hope was that 64bit XP allows extra GPU's to be recognized (and the driver notes lead me to that possibility).

Looks like I am going to have to bite the bullet and format a drive and give it a go
