I was hoping (in a layman's fashion) that since XP64 supports far more ram than XP32 that it might also extend to multiple GPU's.
__________________Anyhow, I'll format one of my backup drives and give it a test this weekend. Time to unpack my rampage extreme... A couple of guys at XS confirmed that XP will support more than 2 gpu's however. They pointed out that XP can support a maximum of 9 monitors before requiring 3rd party software (minimum of 5 gpu's) I also found a guy running a 3870X2 with a single 3870 in tri-fire on XP32 bit without any real issues (mind you he is using the 8.11 drivers).

Well I took the other 4870 out and got 20090 for 3dmarks06. I am happy. I read somewhere that the x2 needs 16x to trifire. O well gonna get my money back.

I installed my 4870x2 just now. When I checked in the device manager there were 2 instances of 4870X2 (Im guessing for the 2 cores?), however one was yellow with a little exclamation point and it said there was some sort of error. Anyone know could be causing this error?
edit: Using 8.12 drivers. Maybe I should try the 8.11's

Did you have a 4870 before installing the 4870X2? (Looking at your sig) If you just plugged the 4870X2 in, it probably only has drivers meant for a single graphics card.
Yeah, uninstall and reinstall the drivers. I'd install 8.12, why go backward?

Hmmmm...no that should do it I'd think.
Did your Vista pop up the "Installing device drivers" dialogue? I think you're supposed to let it do that, then install the card... I'm really not sure. Try the 8.11s, see if it works.

Ok, I installed 8.12'a and installed fine and prompted me to restart. I got BSOD on restart and then when I was able to get in to Windows I got a message saying no ATI drivers or drivers not working properly. Will try 8.11's now. Hopefully that clears this up

Well I installed the 8.11's and it killed my OS. I kept getting BSOD while loading in to Windows, then when I booted in Safe Mode, I couldnt uninstall the drivers. So I just reformatted and now it seems to be ok with the 8.12 drivers. I hope the 9.1's will fix some of these issues.
IS there anything I need to turn on or enable CF or what not to get both GPU's running? I never had a dual GPU card before and I have not educated my self on this.

AMD has responded back and indicated that 4870X2's will run in crossfire with WinXP64 bit.
