ATI HD4870X2 Owners Thread

I use the two dedicated ones and two additional for the original crossfire setup

my power supply actually has 6 pci-e power connectors (it supports tri-sli).

I had it powering 3 9800gtx not too long ago. its also run a pair of HD4870's without an issue.

Its something else, just not sure what.

Tri-SLI with 98GTXs and two HD4870s don't use as much power as two HD4870x2s.

They should run with a single 6 pin for each. Try it out.

Mobo bios up to date?

I saw a review where they had to update to a beta bios, same symptoms as you describe.
I'll see if I can find the link.
Also I would go ahead and uninstall the drivers while a 4870 is installed.
I forget sometimes when swapping my X2 around, , no signal every once in awhile.

Are you saying that you get no signal to the monitor on boot up or after windows begins to load?

Not likely drivers. I don't even get motherboard post screen.

(although my board is posting and booting successfully. These external bios lcd posters are handy for something after all)


I'm running 0407 bios which was released about 3 days ago as well. There is an 0408 beta but it apparently has some stability issues.


Since I have already sold both of the 4870's I'm going to give this a rest for now. This is almost a moot exercise as I will likely not bother with a second X2 for awhile (and this issue might only be with a 4870 and an X2)
