Well even if you do buy two 4870 lets say VisionTek which is less expensive than others its gonna cost $540 before tax or shipping.

Truth be told, I'm surprised at how well my OCd 8800gts handles games @ 19x12 2xAA 16xAF(btw benq G2400WD ftmfw)... Still I may consider upgrading at some point, so it would be lovely if Dfi could crank out a bios that works with the 4870x2... Is that too much to ask?

Yep, very bad news for me as i just purchased the X38 board a few weeks ago. It's still NIB so I will probably throw it on here for sale in the next day or 2....

Some people over at DFI have reported success with an older version.

Well this is just great...it seems like I just can't have any thing go my way as far as hardware goes lately. I've had more trouble in the last two months than all the years before put together. Now this...I was seriously going to be ordering an X2 in about two weeks.

crap...guess I'll have to start considering other options. DFI people ussually seem to know what they are doing as far as BIOS go. So i doubt it will get fixed with a BIOS flash. It is probally a problem built into the board.
